This is a new/old "Sawbuck" design. It is one of my recent collaborations with my older son who is moonlighting at forging and fabricating metal pieces, both functional and sculptural. (See 'wood and metal') on the main menu, The stretcher is solid 1.25" steel bar stock, heated to 2300 degrees and twisted, than heated again and twisted in the opposite direction. The steel xs are welded to the twist and let into the table supports to act as stiffening agents, lending the table some serious rigidity. This custom chestnut slab top table (the top is two 18" wide book matched slabs), has a matching 6' side table (#214) that attaches to the end and extends it to 14' .
